Registering and Linking an ORCID

  1. Go to IT Services https://register.it.ox.ac.uk/self/orcid (with Oxford Single Sign On).

  2. Click Login to ORCID.

  3. This takes you to the ORCID website. Fill in the form (name, university email, create password, etc) and click Authorize.

  4. This creates your ORCID, and returns you to IT Services Self Registration which confirms your ORCID has successfully been linked to your Oxford account.

  5. Click 'return home'

  6. Your ORCID number is displayed, and an option to 'View your ORCID profile'. Clicking on it will return you to the ORCID site. You need to sign in if you wish to add information such as publications.

  7. Logout of IT Services Self-Registration.

NOTE:  You'll need to delete your manually entered affiliation (Employment) first if you want the verified affiliation to display. 'Employment' needs to be blank to enable verification. 

  1. Go to your ORCID account and delete the manually entered Employment.

  2. Go to https://register.it.ox.ac.uk/self/orcid and log in with your Oxford SSO.

  3. Click Login to ORCID. This takes you to the ORCID website.

  4. Click Sign in (next to 'Already have an ORCID iD?').

  5. Enter your email and password.

  6. Click Authorize to link your ORCID to your Oxford account and to add ‘The University of Oxford’ as your verified affiliation to your record.

  7. A page indicating that your ORCID is linked to your Oxford account will be displayed.

  8. Click 'return home'

Verified affiliation (Employment) will not overwrite manually entered information on your ORCID account.

If you don’t already have an Oxford ORCID: delete the manually entered Employment on your ORCID account then go to https://register.it.ox.ac.uk/self/orcid and follow the instructions to link an existing ORCID

If you have an Oxford ORCID: (i) go to https://register.it.ox.ac.uk and follow the instructions to unlink your ORCID at Oxford. (ii) Go to your ORCID account and delete the manually entered Employment. (iii) Go back to https://register.it.ox.ac.uk and follow the instructions to link an existing ORCID.

  1. Your ORCID number is displayed, and an option to 'View your ORCID profile'. Click on it if you wish to edit or sign out of your ORCID account.

  2. Logout of IT Services Self-Registration.

 

  1. Log into Elements. Go to Menu > My profile > Automatic claiming. 
  2. If your ORCID ID is listed under 'Do these identify you?' - click Yes and then Confirm.
  3. Otherwise click the ORCID link under ‘Add external profiles’. Follow the steps to log in to your ORCID account and authorise access for Elements.
